416 martensitic stainless is a high hardenability AOD melted alloy with excellent machinability, has higher sulfur content than 410 stainless steel giving it the improved machinability but reduced corrosion resistance suitable for parts and components of devices working in the area of steam and water, can be heat treated to good strength levels through quenching and tempering.
This grade is typically used in applications that require complex geometries and significant machining such as gears, screws, nuts, and bolts, according to AMS 5610, ASTM A582, QQ-S-763, QQ-S-764, GE S-400, S-1000, EN 10088-1.
